Buckingham House

Buckingham House was the home of Queen Charlotte, purchased in 1761 for the sum of £21,000 (1761 was the year of her marriage to George III). Built in 1703 on the site of Mulberry Gardens the house was a stately and grand mansion settled beautifully within gardens and fountains (the fountains being driven from a reservoir atop the house; made of lead, it held fifty tons of water). Read an account of the gardens in the mid-eighteenth century.
