The Arboretum

Run by volunteers, the Arboretum is located on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe. The botanical garden is a flourishing oasis of plants from around the world. It is open to the public seven days a week. Admission free.

The Arboretum at Flagstaff

The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a botanical garden, research station, and environmental education center featuring plant communities of the world-renowned Colorado Plateau, home to such natural wonders as Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks. The Arboretum is known for its wonderful collection of 2,500 species of plants.

Operation hours:

April 1- Oct 31, 9 am - 5 pm daily. One hour long guided tours daily included in the admission charge. Closed November 1- March 31. Check website for snow closure schedules. Also visit website for admission charges.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum

Located in Superior, the Arboretum houses plants from many and varied deserts and dry lands around the world, together with unspoilt examples of the native Sonoran Desert vegetation. The Arboretum offers an enthralling Cactus garden as well as legume, demonstration gardens and much more. Visit their website for a virtual tour, operation hours and admission charges.

Desert Botanical Gardens

The Desert Botanical Garden, located in the Papago Park, hosts one of the world’s finest collections of desert plants. It is one of only 44 botanical gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. It has a strong emphasis on education and research and features interesting exploration trails such as the Plants and People of Sonora Trail, The Wildflower Trail, The Desert Discovery Trail, the Desert Nature Trail, The Center for Desert Living and the Desert House.

The Garden is open seven days a week, year round except for July 4 and December 25.

Garden Seasonal Hours: October through April 8 a.m.-8 p.m. May through September 7 a.m.-8 p.m. During evening hours -certain trails are closed. Garden early closings: March 31, 3 p.m. April 22, 4 p.m. See website for admission charges.

Tuscon Botanical Gardens

There are 16 different gardens within the grounds of TBG representing a variety of gardening traditions and botanical themes such as Historic, Herb, Cactus and Succulents, Xeriscape, Native American, Butterfly, Wildflower, Backyard Bird, Iris and Nuestro Jardin. The TBG also offers numerous educational programs.

Open daily except New Year's Day, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Visiting hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. See website for admission fees.
